Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha adjourned amid Opposition protest over NEET student crackdown

New Delhi: Proceedings in both Houses of Parliament were disrupted on Tuesday as the Opposition intensified protests over the alleged lathi charge and tear-gassing of students demonstrating against the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm after Opposition members continued sloganeering over multiple issues, while the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon amid persistent demands for a discussion on the police action against students protesting the examination controversy.

In the Rajya Sabha, Opposition MPs raised concerns over the alleged use of force against students, accusing the government of suppressing dissent instead of addressing questions surrounding the NEET paper leak.

The disruptions come a day after both Houses witnessed repeated adjournments as Opposition parties sought an immediate discussion on the examination controversy and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On Monday, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the future of lakhs of students was at stake and alleged that students protesting at Jantar Mantar had been subjected to lathi charge. Opposition members also accused the Centre of attempting to silence those raising concerns over the issue.

Outside Parliament, protests over the alleged NEET paper leak also escalated, with demonstrators attempting to march towards the Parliament complex before being stopped by security personnel.

The Monsoon Session has begun on a stormy note, with the Opposition indicating it will continue to press the government on the alleged examination irregularities and the handling of student protests.
