Government ready for Parliamentary discussion on NEET UG paper leak, says Kiren Rijiju

New Delhi: Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the government is fully prepared to hold a parliamentary discussion regarding the NEET UG question paper leak.

Speaking before the Lower House, Rijiju stated, "For three days, the government has formally offered that discussions be held. Government is ready to discuss NEET paper leak issues. The discussion will happen based on rules; its duration will be. A discussion with floor leaders of all parties should be held on when and how the discussion should take place."

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla echoed that the administration remains open to debating the matter, inviting opposition benches to collaborate on scheduling and the framework for the discussion.

In response to Rijiju’s comments, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav asserted that deliberations over the NEET controversy transcend narrow political interests.

"These are our students, and we are fighting for them; they will hit the roads. The issue is not merely restricted to resignation. It is more of action taken against them. PM Modi should make a statement in the House," Yadav said.

Amid mounting opposition protests and uproar inside the chamber, proceedings were suspended until 2 pm.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal informed journalists within the parliamentary complex that opposition parties had reached a consensus to press for an adjournment motion addressing the alleged NEET and CBSE examination paper leaks, alongside reiterating demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"Today morning, we had discussions with opposition parties. We decided very clearly—day before yesterday, yesterday, and today—for the last three days, we have been continuously giving adjournment motions on this NEET-CBSE exam leakage issue, demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister, and a proper action plan for stopping this leakage issue," Venugopal told reporters, adding that the opposition would welcome a debate if the administration consented to the adjournment motion.

Prior to the session, opposition MPs staged a demonstration outside Parliament wearing black attire to signal their protest. Prominent leaders participating in the demonstration included Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the latter of whom emphasised that students are merely asserting legitimate rights and demands.
