Kolkata: A Class-1 pupil was allegedly bitten by a snake inside his school in the Bhawanipore area of the city on Monday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at Mitra Institution around 8.30 a.m. during the tiffin break, according to authorities.

The child has been identified as Drupto Pal, a resident of Tollygunge in south Kolkata.

School authorities notified his family and transported him to the nearby state-run SSKM hospital.

"The boy is currently under treatment, and his condition is stable," a senior hospital official said.

"He has been kept under observation. Tests were conducted, and further treatment will depend on his clinical condition and the reports," he added.

School administrators have also contacted the Forest Department to request an inspection of the premises.

The incident follows a similar occurrence days earlier, when a Class-3 student was allegedly bitten by a snake on the grounds of a prominent private school in Kolkata.
