Kolkata: A female law student in Kolkata has alleged that she was raped inside a law college on Wednesday, 25 June, by a former student with the assistance of two seniors.

According to police, the accused also recorded the assault on a mobile phone and threatened to upload the footage online if she spoke about the incident.

"She has alleged that the three accused had kept the mobile footage of the assault and threatened to release it on the internet if she talked to anybody about the incident," a police source told the media.

The police have seized the mobile phones of the three accused and sent them for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

As per the official police statement issued on Friday, the incident occurred inside the premises of a law college located in south Kolkata. The assault reportedly took place in a guard room situated on the ground floor of the college building.

Police said the survivor arrived at the college at around 4 pm on Wednesday for some official work and was allegedly asked to stay back by one of the accused, Monojit Mishra.

The assault is believed to have occurred between 7.30 pm and 10.50 pm.

Arrests made based on survivor’s complaint

All three accused have been arrested based on a written complaint lodged by the survivor on 26 June, said a senior Kolkata Police officer.

The accused have been identified as Monojit Mishra, 31, a staff member and alumnus of the college; Zaib Ahmed, 19; and Pramit Mukherjee, 20, both senior students.

They were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Alipore, which remanded them to police custody until 1 July.

Survivor informs family, lodges complaint

Following the incident, the survivor informed her parents, who subsequently contacted the police. A formal investigation is underway, and police have stated that further details will be revealed once forensic analysis and witness statements are thoroughly examined.
