Karti Chidambaram has shared his views on a ‘new political party’; check it out

Chennai: Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram sparked an engaging conversation on social media after he floated an idea for a new political party in India, one that would focus exclusively on urban issues like infrastructure, public services, and quality of life, while staying away from divisive themes such as religion, caste, and language.
In a widely circulated post on X, Karti wrote, "In my opinion, a new political party (in India) purely focusing on urban issues - ease of living, quality of infrastructure & public services- devoid of emotive issues (religion, caste & language) will have a fair level of acceptance. (Since none of the establishment political parties seriously address these issues or put it in the forefront of their agenda).”
While his suggestion was met with thoughtful discussion by some, it also led to a flurry of humorous and sarcastic responses from users, one of which particularly stood out. A user mockingly suggested, “Why not ask your dad to form one and name it BCP!! Balcony Cauliflower Party". In an unexpectedly witty comeback, Karti replied, “It will have no relevance, as we cultivate asparagus!”
The banter continued, earning him praise from several users for handling trolling with humour. One commenter noted, “So nice to see good replies by Karti to this bullshit comments by Bhakt.”
Another user chimed in with a political reference, “@AamAadmiParty tried it. Civic issues. Urban development.”
To this, Karti responded critically, “They went ‘National’ & contested in rural seats too, that was a mistake, no focus on the agenda.”
Adding fuel to the buzz, Karti followed up with a creative proposal for a potential party name, "National Alliance (for) Governance And Renewal — NAGAR :)”
While it’s unclear whether Karti’s idea is meant as satire, a thought experiment, or something more serious.
Karti Chidambaram is a Member of Parliament from Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, representing the Indian National Congress. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 and again in 2024, winning a seat previously held multiple times by his father, P. Chidambaram.
