Speeding Lamborghini mows down pedestrians in Kanpur; tobacco trader’s son accused of drunk driving

Kanpur: At least six people were injured on Sunday after a high-end Lamborghini, allegedly driven by the son of a prominent tobacco trader, ploughed into pedestrians and two-wheelers on VIP Road in Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli locality, police said. The incident triggered chaos in the area as angry locals confronted the accused and his security personnel.
DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said the crash occurred around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall when the Lamborghini allegedly driven by Shivam Mishra, son of businessman KK Mishra, lost control and rammed into bystanders and vehicles.
"The accident occurred around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall when the luxury car, reportedly driven by Shivam Mishra, the son of businessman K K Mishra, went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside and several vehicles, triggering panic in the area," Srivastava said.
High-speed crash and eyewitness accounts
Eyewitnesses told NDTV that Shivam was driving the Lamborghini Aventador at excessive speed and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. They said the vehicle first struck an autorickshaw before crashing into a motorcycle, flinging its rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The bike was dragged for several metres before the car hit an electric pole and came to a stop.
Accounts from the scene described panic as people ran for cover while the luxury car careened down the busy stretch.
One injured man, Taufiq Ahmed, said he was standing beside his parked motorcycle when it was struck. Others sustained fractures and bruises in the impact.
Crowd confronts accused; bouncers accused of misbehaviour
The situation escalated when Shivam allegedly attempted to flee. Witnesses claimed that private bouncers travelling in another vehicle tried to shield him and “misbehaved” with locals filming the incident.
Angered by the attempt to escape, the crowd smashed the car’s windows and reportedly dragged Shivam out before police arrived to control the situation.
Police response and allegations of pressure
Police said they rescued the accused from the mob, shifted the injured to a private hospital, and seized the battered Lamborghini – a model estimated to cost nearly ₹10 crore. The vehicle, registered in Northwest Delhi’s Rohini as per RTO records, suffered significant damage.
At the police station, tensions rose again as victims and locals accused the accused’s associates of misbehaving and alleged that officers were “going soft” on Shivam due to his family’s influence. Some protesters claimed pressure was being exerted on them for a compromise and questioned the delay in registering an FIR.
Probe underway; FIR expected
DCP Srivastava said the vehicle had been taken into custody and confirmed that further action would be based on formal complaints.
"The injured were provided primary treatment. An FIR will be registered, and further legal action will follow," he said.
Shivam Mishra is the son of KK Mishra, who operates Banshidhar Exports Pvt. Ltd., a major supplier of tobacco to gutkha manufacturers in the region.
