In the recent electoral battle in the Pampore assembly constituency, Hasnain Masoodi of the National Conference (NC) has emerged victorious, unseating Zahoor Ahmad Mir of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by securing 15,088 votes. Mir, who received 12,325 votes, lost by a margin of approximately 2,763 votes in a highly competitive race that featured a total of 14 candidates.

Key candidates:

Hasnain Masoodi is running as the candidate for the National Conference, while Zahoor Ahmad Mir represents the Peoples Democratic Party. Mir has a strong history in the constituency, having previously won multiple elections, including the 2008 Assembly elections. A total of 14 candidates are contesting in the seat.

Electorate size:
The Pampore constituency has a total electorate of 68,904 voters, making it a significant battleground for the upcoming elections.

Local issues:
Voters in Pampore have raised several pressing concerns, with the decline of the saffron industry being the primary issue. Despite a substantial central government investment of over ₹400 crore into the National Saffron Mission in 2009, many local farmers report that a significant number of the 90 bore wells constructed under the initiative are non-functional, leading to critical irrigation shortages for saffron fields. Additional local concerns include high unemployment rates, challenges in agriculture, and the need for improved infrastructure.

Who won the last election:
In the last assembly election held in 2014, Zahoor Ahmad Mir of the JKPDP secured victory with 16,239 votes, defeating Yawar Ali Abbass of the NC, who received 12,741 votes. The margin of victory was 3,498 votes.
