The Indian naval sailing vessel INSV Tarini is now on its homeward journey after completing a crucial phase of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II, the Indian Navy confirmed in an official statement released on Friday.

The all-women crew of Tarini has successfully navigated through the perilous waters of the Southern Ocean, having rounded all three of the world’s great Capes — the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, Cape Leeuwin in Australia, and Cape Horn in South America. This accomplishment is a significant maritime feat, reflecting the team’s outstanding seamanship, mental fortitude, and coordination under extreme conditions. The Navy hailed the milestone as a key chapter in India's evolving narrative of maritime adventure and global presence.

In a message shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Indian Navy stated, "Navika Sagar Parikrama II – INSV Tarini is homeward bound! The crew has triumphantly crossed the iconic Cape of Good Hope, marking another monumental milestone in their epic circumnavigation journey… This remarkable feat showcases the crew’s exceptional seamanship, resilience, and teamwork, setting a new benchmark for Indian sailing and inspiring a nation."

The vessel was ceremonially flagged off on 15 April 2025 from the Royal Cape Yacht Club in Cape Town, marking the start of the final leg of its global circumnavigation. The send-off ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Officiating Consul General of India in Cape Town, the Defence Attaché of India to South Africa, senior members of the Royal Cape Yacht Club Governing Council, and representatives of the Indian diaspora in South Africa.

INSV Tarini is expected to reach its destination, Goa, by the end of May 2025, concluding what has been a challenging yet historic journey across the world's oceans.

The Navika Sagar Parikrama II is not only a demonstration of India’s maritime capabilities but also a powerful symbol of the nation’s commitment to women’s empowerment in the armed forces and beyond. This expedition continues to pave the way for greater representation of women in India’s maritime and defence sectors. It also stands as a statement of India’s expanding ambitions in global maritime exploration, and the strategic and symbolic significance of sailing under the Indian flag in international waters.

The ongoing success of INSV Tarini and her crew reinforces India's maritime legacy and inspires future generations to pursue excellence at sea.
