Full emergency declared on IndiGo Kolkata-Chennai flight after engine failure

A full emergency was declared at Chennai Airport after an IndiGo flight from Kolkata developed a left engine inoperative condition on Tuesday night. The aircraft later landed safely, with 224 people on board.

The flight, IndiGo 6E-723, was operating from Kolkata to Chennai. According to the Chennai Airport Authority, the Full Emergency was declared at 11:29 PM after the aircraft reported the engine issue.

Following the emergency declaration, Chennai Airport activated the necessary emergency response arrangements to facilitate the aircraft's safe arrival.

The aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at 11:37 PM, with 224 persons on board, the airport authority said.

The Full Emergency was formally withdrawn at 11:47 PM. Chennai Airport subsequently confirmed that all airport operations were normal.

The airport authority said in its statement: "A Full Emergency was declared at 2329 IST for flight 6E-723, operating from Kolkata (CCU) to Chennai (MAA), due to a left engine inoperative condition."

The statement added that emergency response arrangements had been initiated following the declaration to ensure the safe arrival of the aircraft.

Earlier IndiGo flight emergency landing in Rajkot

The latest incident comes after an international IndiGo flight bound for Mumbai from Dubai made an unscheduled emergency landing at Gujarat's Rajkot Airport last month.

According to airport authorities, the pilots received an alert indicating smoke in the aircraft's lower cargo hold and responded by declaring an emergency and requesting priority landing clearance from Air Traffic Control.

Emergency response teams, including fire tenders and medical units, were deployed alongside the runway as a precaution.
