New Delhi:India Post announced on Tuesday that it will resume all categories of international postal services to the United States starting October 15, 2025. The decision follows compliance with the latest US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) rules governing postal shipments.

According to the Department of Posts (DoP), under the CBP’s new tariff guidelines, postal consignments from India to the US will attract a flat 50% customs duty on the declared value.

“The Department of Posts is pleased to announce the resumption of all categories of international postal services to the United States of America (USA) with effect from 15 October 2025,” the official statement said.

India Post explained that the services had earlier been suspended through an office memorandum dated August 22, 2025, following Executive Order 14324 issued by the US Administration. The suspension became necessary due to new regulatory procedures introduced by the US CBP for collecting and remitting import duties.

Unlike commercial or courier consignments, no additional base or product-specific duties will apply to postal items, the statement clarified. This streamlined duty structure significantly reduces overall shipping costs, making the postal route a more affordable and competitive solution for MSMEs, artisans, small traders, and e-commerce exporters.

The DoP further confirmed that it will not impose any extra charges on customers for facilitating Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) and qualified party services. Postal tariffs will remain unchanged, ensuring exporters continue to benefit from affordable international delivery rates while adhering to the updated US import regulations.

The department said the move is intended to preserve affordability, strengthen MSME participation, and promote India’s export growth through the postal network.
