Hyderabad: A private school in Hyderabad has terminated a teacher after she allegedly assigned religious homework to Class 2 students, sparking protests from the parents of a Hindu student and triggering a political row.

The incident occurred at Success, The School in Sayeedabad. On Thursday, the school issued a termination letter to teacher Shaik Aisha Parveen, stating, "Further you are informed that you are permanently disqualified to apply for employment in future in the Success Group of Education Institutions."

The controversy erupted after the parents of a Class 2 student alleged that their child had been asked to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha as part of a homework assignment. Calling the instruction inappropriate, the parents visited the school and demanded strict action against those responsible.

The school responded by terminating the teacher's services. However, it has not issued any public statement on the controversy beyond the termination letter.

Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that the action was taken after he highlighted the issue on social media.

In a post on X, Poonawalla wrote, "Success but only partially… This morning after I exposed the forcible action of a school teacher in Hyderabad to make Hindu child say Islamic prayers, Kalma, etc, now the school has terminated the teacher."

The school has not publicly commented on the allegations or the circumstances surrounding the homework assignment beyond issuing the termination order.
