Chhattisgarh: A jawan from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) died following an accidental firing incident at the Kadenar camp in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, police officials confirmed on Sunday.

The incident took place in the morning after a team of security personnel returned from an area domination operation in forested regions under the Chhotedongar police station area, which is affected by Naxalite activity. The operation had been launched a day earlier, on Saturday.

According to officials, the patrolling team reached the camp in the early hours. While security personnel were boarding a vehicle, a weapon accidentally discharged. The bullet struck Constable Baldev Singh Hurra (33) near the head, causing critical injuries.

He was immediately taken to Dhaudai hospital, where doctors provided primary treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding, police said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the weapon that discharged belonged to the deceased jawan or to one of his colleagues. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the firing.

Officials added that further details will emerge after the completion of the inquiry.
