'Will be called an anti-national again': Diljit Dosanjh backs CJP, recalls farmers’ protest backlash

Diljit Dosanjh has once again found himself speaking up on a protest-related issue. The singer-actor has backed students associated with the CJP movement following the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march and urged authorities to hear their demands.

Sharing a message on his Instagram stories, Diljit said the way students were treated was not right and asked the authorities to listen to their concerns.

“Aj Jo hoyea Baut Maada Hoyea.. Students Naal Edan Treat Nhi Hona Chaida c.. Mai Authorities Nu Request Karda Ke Students Dian Demands Nu sunn Leya Javey.. Lokan Di Avaaz Rab Di Avaaz Hundi Aa.."

“What happened today was very unfortunate. Students should not be treated this way. I request the authorities to listen to the students’ demands. The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he wrote in Hindi. 

Diljit Dosanjh recalls backlash after farmers’ protest

Diljit also referred to the criticism he faced after supporting the farmers’ protest. He said he expects to be called “anti-national” again for speaking out.

“Mere Te Already Anti Nationalist Da Tag Baut Vaar Lagg Chuka.. Hun V Mainu Anti-nationalist Keha Jaega. After Kisan Protest.. I faced a Lot of Backlash & Legal Problems which I can’t Even Discuss.. BAKI RAB SAB DEKH REHA, BABA BHALLI KARU."

“I have already been labelled an anti-national many times. Now, I will be called an anti-national again. After the farmers’ protest, I faced a lot of backlash and legal problems, which I cannot even discuss. The rest, God is watching. Baba will make everything right,” he added. 

Why are students protesting under the CJP movement?

The CJP movement, short for Cockroach Janta Party, emerged as a youth-led protest platform amid anger over issues including the NEET-UG 2026 controversy and concerns raised by students.

The movement gained wider attention after Sonam Wangchuk joined a sit-in at Jantar Mantar on June 28 and began an indefinite hunger strike, with demands including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJP later organised the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on July 20, with thousands of protesters attempting to march towards Parliament.

The protest movement has also received support from several names from the film and music industries. Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Naseeruddin Shah and Abhay Deol have urged the government to engage in dialogue with Sonam Wangchuk, while Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, Anurag Kashyap and Shilpa Rao are among those who have voiced support for the protesting students.
