Dhruv Rathee reportedly detained by Delhi Police ahead of planned CJP protest in Delhi

Delhi Police reportedly took YouTuber Dhruv Rathee into custody from his Gurugram residence on Saturday morning, ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in the national capital against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to sources, Rathee had travelled to Delhi to participate in the proposed demonstration scheduled for October 10.
Police personnel reportedly reached his family residence in Central Park Vihar, Sector 56, Gurugram, late Friday night, with around 50 personnel said to have gathered outside the property.
The police team reportedly entered the residence at around 7:48 am on Saturday after Rathee’s mother opened the door. Police reportedly took him into custody ahead of the planned protest.
The circumstances surrounding the reported detention, including the legal grounds for the police action, were not immediately clear. Delhi Police had not released an official statement confirming the details at the time of writing.
CJP protest against Chief Election Commissioner
The Cockroach Janta Party had planned a demonstration at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest was expected to focus on allegations about electoral processes and voter list revisions.
Opposition parties have criticized the Election Commission over aspects of electoral roll revisions.
Allegations of irregularities have dominated political debate, with opposition leaders raising concerns about voter deletions and electoral transparency.

Security arrangements were stepped up across parts of central Delhi ahead of the proposed gathering.
Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed at key locations, while barricades and restrictions were put in place to manage crowds and maintain law and order.
Delhi Police reportedly denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing procedural issues and concerns about public safety, traffic management, and law and order.
The planned gathering nevertheless drew attention because of the heightened security measures and the reported detention of Rathee before the demonstration.
