IMD predicts light rain for Delhi today, moderate showers expected later this week

Delhi is expected to experience another day of cloudy weather with brief spells of light rain on Sunday, July 26, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts intermittent showers across the national capital. Residents may witness one round of very light to light rainfall during the forenoon or afternoon, followed by another spell later in the night.

Surface winds are likely to blow at speeds of 15 to 20 kmph, which could provide some relief from the prevailing humidity. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum is likely to settle between 24°C and 26°C.

The forecast follows scattered rainfall recorded across several parts of Delhi on Saturday.

Despite the showers, temperatures remained slightly above normal. At Safdarjung, the city's base weather station, the maximum temperature reached 36°C, 1.1 degrees above the seasonal average and 1.4 degrees higher than Friday.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.7°C, which was 0.4 degrees above normal.

Other weather stations also reported varying temperatures. Palam recorded a maximum of 33.8°C and a minimum of 25.2°C, while Lodhi Road logged a minimum temperature of 27°C. Ayanagar remained relatively cooler, recording a minimum of 24.2°C.

Rainfall remained light but widespread across the capital. Safdarjung received 1 mm of rainfall during the early hours of Saturday, while Palam recorded 2.6 mm through the day.

Light showers were also reported from Lodhi Road, Najafgarh, Janakpuri and Narayana, reflecting scattered rainfall activity across the city.

According to the IMD, similar weather conditions are likely on Monday with light rain at isolated places.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase from Tuesday, prompting the weather department to issue a yellow alert for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds is forecast at several places during this period.

The extended outlook suggests that Delhi will continue to witness generally cloudy skies through the coming week, with daytime temperatures gradually easing to around 31°C to 34°C by the end of July.

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the satisfactory category. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported a 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 73 on Saturday morning, compared to 70 a day earlier.

An AQI between 51 and 100 falls under the satisfactory category, indicating acceptable air quality with only minor health concerns for unusually sensitive individuals.

With intermittent rainfall likely over the next few days, air quality is expected to remain stable.
