Delhi Assembly passes fee regulation Bill, AAP's amendments rejected

New Delhi: The BJP-led Delhi government's first Bill regulating fee hikes by recognised private unaided schools was passed by the Delhi Assembly on Friday. The Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025, was passed after a four-hour debate in the House.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) proposed eight amendments to the Bill but they were rejected during voting.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said the Bill will be sent to Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena for approval.
During division of votes, 41 ruling BJP MLAs and 17 AAP legislators were present in the House. The Bill, tabled by Education Minister Ashish Sood on Monday during the Monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly, seeks to regulate fee hikes by private unaided schools in the national capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers greeted the media after the Bill was approved in the Assembly. She described the moment as a historic step for parents in Delhi, highlighting the long wait for such a move.
She said, “The 52-year-long 'vanvas' of the parents in Delhi has ended today. For the first time after 1973, there is a Government in Delhi which had the courage to do justice to all parents in Delhi in a transparent manner and provide them relief. The Bill has been passed today after a detailed discussion.”
She continued, “Ours is the first Government that made a bold decision in such a short time and provided relief to the people of Delhi. I am delighted that today that the parents of Delhi who used to protest on streets will now get relief through this Act. This is the power of vote.”
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra commented by saying, “This is a historic moment. Issues of the common people are being discussed in Delhi Assembly, Bills related to them are being passed. It has been 12-13 years since this happened. This matter related to education and fee regulation was a huge matter. Lakhs of parents were worried. When a few students had reached the residence of the CM, she had announced at that time that we will bring this Act. Education Minister has formed a fantastic law”.
