New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday arrested two members of the notorious ‘Thak-Thak Gang’, who are allegedly involved in over 15 cases of robbery, snatching, theft, cheating and offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

In a statement, the South-West District Police said a team from R.K. Puram Police Station apprehended the accused, Sanju alias Sanju Madrasi (26) and Gaurav alias Rinku (26), both residents of Madangir under Ambedkar Nagar police station limits.

Officers recovered a stolen bag containing an HP laptop with accessories, PAN card, Aadhaar card, debit and credit cards and other valuables belonging to the complainant. A TVS NTorq scooter allegedly used in the crime was also seized.

The incident took place on November 21 when the complainant was travelling from her office in Okhla to Dwarka. While driving along Ring Road near the Hyatt Hotel, two men on a scooter gestured to her, indicating a supposed issue with her car. She stopped near the Sector-12 bus stand and stepped out to check the vehicle. At that moment, one of the men opened the door, grabbed her bag and rode off with his accomplice.

Following her complaint, an FIR (No. 80110636) under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at R.K. Puram Police Station, prompting a detailed investigation.

Given the seriousness of the case, a team led by Inspector Ravinder Kumar Tyagi, SHO of R.K. Puram, was formed. The team included SI Satyender Gulia, Head Constables Sampat Ram, Kuldeep, Ram Phool, Inderpal, and Constables Sandeep and Sudesh, under the supervision of ACP Babbar Bhan of the Vasant Vihar Sub-Division.

After studying the gang’s modus operandi and using local intelligence inputs, police arrested Gaurav alias Rinku on November 23, followed by Sanju alias Madrasi on November 24. The stolen bag and the scooter used in the theft were recovered during interrogation.

Police described the gang’s tactics as a diversion strategy, signalling drivers about a non-existent mechanical fault, such as a flat tyre. Once the driver exits the vehicle, the accused steals valuables from inside and flees.

Investigators found that Sanju, originally from Tamil Nadu but raised in Delhi, is married and studied up to Class 8. He allegedly entered the world of crime in 2018 due to substance addiction and has 12 previous cases registered against him. He reportedly began consuming liquor and drugs after associating with local criminals and committing crimes to sustain his addictions.

Gaurav, also married and educated up to Class 10, similarly became involved in criminal activities in 2018. Police said he turned to offences to support his habits and has three prior cases of snatching and NDPS violations registered at Ambedkar Nagar police station.
