New Delhi: In a major relief measure for households in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that every household will receive two free LPG cylinders annually—one on Holi and another on Diwali. The scheme has been allocated Rs 260 crore in the 2026–27 Delhi Budget.

Presenting a record budget of Rs 1,03,700 crore, Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, described it as a “green budget” aimed at balancing economic growth with sustainability during a period of transition. The announcement comes at a time when concerns around LPG supply and affordability have been rising among consumers.

The budget projects tax revenue of Rs 74,000 crore, while Delhi continues to rank among the top states in terms of per capita income, holding the third position nationally.

Highlighting fiscal concerns, Gupta pointed to the 2018–20 period under the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, stating that a “culture of freebies” had impacted revenue growth.

The budget also places strong emphasis on infrastructure and urban development. Key allocations include Rs 11,666 crore for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Rs 5,921 crore for the Public Works Department, and Rs 7,887 crore for urban development and housing projects. These investments are aimed at improving urban infrastructure, boosting economic activity, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Overall, the 2026–27 Delhi Budget combines welfare measures like free LPG cylinders with significant infrastructure spending, signalling a dual focus on public relief and long-term development.
