BSF recovers pistol and heroin near Pak border, possible drone smuggling

Punjab: In a significant anti-smuggling operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a Glock pistol and a packet of suspected heroin near the Ferozepur border in Punjab. The recoveries were made in separate operations on February 28 and March 1, 2025, based on intelligence inputs from the BSF intelligence wing.
On the evening of February 28, at around 8:15 PM, BSF troops conducted a search in an agricultural field near Tindiwala village under Sadar police station limits. During the search, they recovered a Glock pistol wrapped in white adhesive tape, with an iron hook attached—suggesting an attempt to transport it across the border using a drone.
In a follow-up operation at the same location, BSF personnel discovered a packet of suspected heroin weighing 590 grams at approximately 4:00 AM on March 1. The packet, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and also fitted with an iron hook, was found near the Satluj river, further indicating the use of drones for smuggling.
The BSF stated that these recoveries highlight the ongoing threats of cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling and the increasing use of drones for illicit activities. The force has been intensifying surveillance and operational measures along the Indo-Pak border to counter these threats effectively.
The recovered pistol and heroin have been handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation. Authorities suspect that Pakistan-based smugglers attempted to use drones to deliver contraband into India, a growing concern in border security operations.
