Relief for BS Yediyurappa: Court adjourns hearing on POCSO case to September 5

Justice M. Nagaprasanna of the Karnataka High Court has adjourned the hearing on the petition filed by former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, which seeks the quashing of a POCSO Act case against him, to September 5 on Friday.
The case, concerning allegations of sexual harassment of a minor, was previously reviewed by Justice Nagaprasanna, who also considered Yediyurappa's petitions for anticipatory bail. A bench led by Justice Nagaprasanna had earlier extended Yediyurappa’s exemption from arrest, allowing him to attend the court sessions.
During the proceedings, the victim’s lawyer called for Yediyurappa’s arrest and interrogation, arguing for sufficient time to present their case.
The POCSO case was registered on March 3, 2024, at the Sadashivnagar Police Station, following serious allegations against Yediyurappa. An FIR was filed based on the complaint, and the investigation was subsequently transferred to the CID due to the severity of the charges. CID officials had issued a notice to Yediyurappa, who complied by attending court proceedings and providing his statement.
Yediyurappa has submitted two separate petitions to the High Court, one seeking to quash the case and another requesting anticipatory bail. The court’s decision on these petitions is expected on September 5.
