Chennai: Panic briefly gripped Chennai’s film circles after bomb threats were reported at the residences of Tamil actors Ajith Kumar and Ramya Krishnan. Police later confirmed after a detailed inspection that the alerts were false and no explosives were found.

According to police sources, both Ajith Kumar’s two homes in Chennai and Ramya Krishnan’s residence on the outskirts of the city received the threats via calls and emails. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), supported by police and sniffer dog units, immediately conducted thorough searches at all locations. Officials later stated that no explosive materials were detected, confirming the threat was a hoax.

The development follows a string of similar incidents in recent weeks targeting Tamil film personalities. Earlier, threats had been issued against actors Vijay, Trisha, Nayanthara and Arun Vijay, among others.

Last week, the Director General of Police (DGP) reportedly received an email from an unidentified sender claiming that a bomb had been planted at actor Arun Vijay’s residence in Ekkattuthangal. After extensive searches, the police found no such device.

Authorities also said that several hoax messages had mentioned nearly 10 different locations, including the residences of Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi and Chief Minister M K Stalin, prompting immediate deployment of the BDDS and security teams across the city.

On the professional front, Ajith Kumar was recently seen in Magizh Thirumeni’s Vidaamuyarchi and Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly. The actor is also reported to be collaborating with Ravichandran again for an upcoming project tentatively titled AK64. Apart from cinema, Ajith has been active in motorsport — his team, Ajith Kumar Racing, participated in the 24H Middle East Trophy in Dubai and the 24H European Series held across Mugello, Spa-Francorchamps, and Misano.

Ramya Krishnan, meanwhile, is gearing up for her next film, Ram Gopal Varma’s Police Station Mein Bhoot.
