Intel inputs flag terror threat to religious sites in Delhi; Red Fort area under watch: Reports
New Delhi: An intelligence alert has been issued in the national capital after inputs warned of a possible terror threat near the Red Fort, with security agencies stepping up surveillance in the area.
According to ANI, citing intelligence sources, a temple in the Chandni Chowk locality could be a potential target, and key religious sites in and around the Red Fort remain on the radar of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Inputs suggest that the group may be planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack and could be attempting a major strike in India, allegedly in retaliation for the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad.
“Blast alert in front of the Red Fort in Delhi. Terrorists may target a temple in Chandni Chowk. Lashkar-e-Taiba is plotting an IED attack. They are planning a major terrorist attack in India to avenge the February 6th mosque blast in Islamabad, Pakistan. Major temples in the country can be targeted by Lashkar-e-Taiba,” intelligence sources said.
Sources told ANI that prominent temples across the country remain on the group’s radar, prompting heightened security and closer monitoring by central and Delhi Police units.
On November 10, 2025, a white Hyundai i20 exploded on a road near the Red Fort, killing 15 people. The vehicle was allegedly being driven by Umar Nabi, a doctor from Kashmir.
In the aftermath of the blast, the Delhi Police significantly tightened security in and around the Red Fort, introducing intensified round-the-clock patrols and enhanced surveillance measures.
