Bharat Taxi: Centre's ride-hailing initiative to debut in Delhi early 2026

New Delhi: The Centre is set to launch its own taxi-hailing application, ‘Bharat Taxi’, in Delhi from January 1, 2026, a move aimed at providing relief to commuters from surge pricing while ensuring fair prices for drivers, according to reports.

The Bharat Taxi app, to be launched in the national capital, is the Centre’s own taxi platform and is intended to address frequent price surges in app-based cab services. The app will offer multiple transport options, including cars, bicycles and auto-rickshaws. More than 50,000 drivers have already registered on the platform in Delhi.

Earlier, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha that the platform will operate under Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd, a multi-state cooperative formed earlier this year under the MSCS Act. During the discussion in the House, Shah said the government plans to introduce a cooperative-led mobile application to reduce drivers’ dependence on private aggregators. He added that the platform aims to give drivers more control over their income and working conditions.
