Heavy rain floods Bengaluru localities: Authorities deploy tractors for rescue operations

Bengaluru: Heavy rainfall inundated various localities in Bengaluru on Wednesday, leading authorities to deploy two tractors to assist residents in affected areas. The weather department has predicted continuous rain throughout the day and into Thursday.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) arranged for the tractors at the Kendriya Vihar apartments to help transport residents from the Yelahanka locality. A help desk was established on Tuesday evening to provide essential supplies, including drinking water, milk, bread, and biscuits.
Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath visited the flooded areas and apartment complexes in the morning to oversee relief efforts. At Kendriya Vihar Apartments, where approximately three feet of water had accumulated, he instructed officials to take swift action to address the situation. "Two tractors have been arranged to help residents enter and exit the apartment complex," BBMP stated.
More than 20 officers and staff members were deployed on-site to assist with the response. Girinath also visited the Ramanashree California Layout, directing officials to begin pumping out the water.
In comments to the media, Girinath reported that Bengaluru received 30 mm of rain from Monday to Tuesday, with an additional 60 mm to 70 mm recorded on Tuesday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. "The northern part of Bengaluru has received heavy rain. All lakes are full and the problem is caused as the water was overflowing. Every year it has been a problem. We are taking measures to take out water from the inundated low-lying areas in Yelahanka," he said.
Due to the ongoing rainfall, the Chief Commissioner held a virtual meeting this morning, urging all officials to assess the situation in their respective zones and work towards finding lasting solutions.
