WB doctor murder case: Autopsy report reveals brutal torture, glass pieces in eyes

West Bengal: The final autopsy report revealed the horrific nature of the crime that shook the medical community in Kolkata. A postgraduate trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The report details severe injuries, including strangulation marks, and notes that shards of glass from her broken spectacles penetrated her eyes, causing bleeding.
On August 9, the victim, a trainee doctor, was resting in the hospital's seminar room when Sanjoy Roy, a drunk 'civic volunteer', allegedly entered and committed the heinous act. She was throttled to death and sustained a broken thyroid cartilage due to strangling and a deep wound in her private parts caused by "perverted sexuality" and "genital torture".
Injuries were also found on her belly, lips, fingers, and left leg and her nose and mouth were clamped, with her head pushed against a wall to prevent screaming. Scratch marks on her face indicate a desperate struggle against her attacker.
The body of the post-graduate trainee was found on Friday morning, and Sanjoy Roy was arrested on Saturday based on CCTV footage showing him entering the building where the doctor was found murdered. Roy, stationed at the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had access to all departments.
The murder has sparked widespread outrage, with doctors and nurses leading protests in Kolkata and other parts of India. The principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, initially resigned but was reassigned, prompting another protest. The victim's parents have moved the High Court seeking justice, leading to the Calcutta High Court ordering Ghosh to resign by 3 pm on Tuesday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has warned the Kolkata police to break the case by Sunday or face a CBI investigation.
