Attention all! Aadhaar service fees set to increase in two phases from October 1

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has increased the fees for Aadhaar services. Updating or correcting details such as name, date of birth, address, phone number, email, photo, fingerprints and iris scan will now cost more. The fee hike will be implemented in two phases.

In the first phase, services previously costing ₹50 will increase to ₹75, while those costing ₹100 will rise to ₹125. In the second phase, the ₹75 fee will go up to ₹90, and the ₹125 fee will rise to ₹150. The first-phase rates will be valid from October 1 until September 30, 2028, and the second-phase rates will be in effect from October 1, 2028 to September 30, 2031.

New Aadhaar enrolments will continue to be free of cost. Mandatory biometric updates for children aged 5–7 and teenagers aged 15–17 will remain free of charge. The authority will directly pay the applicable fee to the service centres for these updates.

However, mandatory biometric updates for children aged 7–15 and those above 17 will incur a fee. This fee will increase from ₹100 to ₹125 in the first phase, and to ₹150 in the second phase. For services requested directly by citizens through the UIDAI portal, the fee has been increased from ₹50 to ₹75.

The payments provided by UIDAI to service centres have also been revised. Although these payments had not been consistently received for a long time, the centres now expect to receive the updated amounts under the new structure.
