4 dead, 5 Army personnel missing in Arunachal Pradesh landslide, flash flood

Itanagar: Four people died and five Army personnel went missing in two separate rain-related incidents in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday evening, officials said.

Heavy rainfall triggered a major landslide in Upper Subansiri district and a flash flood in Dibang Valley district, leading to deaths, destruction and search operations.

Four killed in Upper Subansiri landslide

The landslide occurred at the Keojaring-Byaching road cutting site in Upper Subansiri district.

Several people were reportedly trapped under the debris. Four people- Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali- were reported dead.

The body of Babul Ali has been recovered, according to the district disaster management officer.

Personnel from Nacho Police Station are involved in the search and rescue operation. Fire and Emergency Services teams are also being mobilised from Daporijo, while the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will assist in the operation.

Five Army personnel missing after flash flood

In Dibang Valley, a flash flood swept away two shelters at the Pasu Pani Army Camp of the 5th Grenadier on Friday evening.

Officials said seven Army personnel were swept away in the incident. Two were rescued, while five remain missing.

The missing personnel have been identified as Havaldar Upendar and Army personnel Kundan, Vinod, Aditya and Samunda.

Two search and rescue teams from the 5th Grenadier have been deployed to look for the missing personnel.

Multiple agencies join rescue efforts

Teams from the 58th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 62 RCC of the General Reserve Engineer Force, Arunachal Pradesh Police and local volunteers have been sent to the affected area.

An SDRF team from Pasighat is also on its way to Anini to support the ongoing search and rescue operations.
