Jammu: In a display of tactical grit, 'Tyson,' an elite German Shepherd with the Indian Army’s 2 Para Special Forces, led a high-stakes assault on a terrorist hideout Sunday, resulting in the elimination of three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists.

The counter-terror action, conducted under the mantle of "Operation Trashi-I," took place in the formidable terrain of the Chatroo forest belt in Kishtwar district. Tyson, a product of world-class K9 schooling, was instrumental in breaking the enemy's concealment during the mission’s critical opening moments.

Elite Pedigree and Training

Tyson’s combat effectiveness is rooted in his rigorous background at the Dog Breeding & Training School (DBTS) of the CRPF in Taralu, Karnataka. The canine underwent specialised multi-tasking and assault training at the prestigious institution from Feb. 7, 2022, to Dec. 22, 2022.

His performance in the field is being hailed as a "testament to world-class K9 schooling" provided by the CRPF facility, which remains a premier hub for developing elite four-legged soldiers for India's security forces.

Gallantry in Hostile Terrain

During the sweep of the Passerkut area, Tyson was tasked with the initial charge toward a suspected nomadic mud hutment (dhok) where terrorists were entrenched. Despite being met with immediate gunfire and sustaining a bullet wound to the leg, the German Shepherd refused to falter.

Military officials noted that Tyson’s persistence under fire allowed the Special Forces teams to pinpoint the terrorists' exact positions. The ensuing firefight, conducted under "hostile terrain and challenging weather conditions," resulted in the neutralisation of three foreign terrorists, including a top JeM commander identified as Saifullah.

Recovery and Mission Status

The operation yielded a significant cache of "war-like stores," including three AK-47 rifles. Officials confirmed that Tyson's "indomitable courage" prevented potential human casualties during the initial breach of the hideout.

Following the encounter, Tyson was airlifted for emergency medical care. Veterinary surgeons confirmed Monday that the canine is currently in stable condition and recovering.
