Andhra Pradesh reports 12 Covid-19 cases, 4 deaths between June 26 and July 16

Andhra Pradesh recorded 12 Covid-19 infections between June 26 and July 16, with four patients suffering from underlying health conditions succumbing to the virus, Health Commissioner G Veerapandian said on Thursday.

According to the commissioner, all four deceased patients had severe comorbidities, including hypertension, diabetes, kidney-related ailments and other serious illnesses.

"Sporadic Covid-19 cases were reported in the state. Between June 26 and July 16, 12 people contracted Covid-19 virus and four out of them succumbed," Veerapandian said in an official press release.

Of the four fatalities, three were reported from Kadapa district, while one death occurred in Kakinada.

Veerapandian said the state's first Covid-19 case of 2026 was detected in Kadapa district on June 26. A further 11 infections were identified between July 1 and July 16.

The Health Department said two individuals contracted the virus after coming into close contact with infected persons.

Kadapa recorded the highest number of infections with eight cases, followed by Guntur with two cases. Visakhapatnam and Kakinada reported one case each.

"All these cases were reported from different mandals, not as a cluster from a single place," said Veerapandian.

The commissioner said 67 Covid-19 tests were conducted across Andhra Pradesh between June 26 and July 15. Eleven positive cases were identified through testing in the state, while the 12th patient was diagnosed at Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

Among the infected individuals, three are currently under home isolation, two are receiving treatment in hospitals, and three have recovered and been discharged.

Providing a broader national picture, Veerapandian said India reported 339 Covid-19 cases from July 1 onwards. Kerala recorded the highest number with 115 cases, followed by Karnataka (64), Maharashtra (43), Tamil Nadu (39), Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Delhi (18 each), Rajasthan (12), and a smaller number of cases in other states.
