Air India to shift Ahmedabad–London flights to Heathrow from Aug 1; partial schedule restoration begins

Mumbai: Air India on Tuesday announced that it will operate three weekly flights between Ahmedabad and London Heathrow from August 1 to September 30, replacing its existing service to London Gatwick.

The airline currently operates five flights a week on the Ahmedabad–Gatwick route. The new schedule marks a temporary shift to Heathrow, with reduced frequency.

In addition, Air India said it is partially restoring services that were scaled back following a self-imposed "Safety Pause" after the June 12 crash of a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which resulted in 260 fatalities.

As part of the phased resumption, some flight frequencies will be restored from August 1, compared to the July schedule, with full operations expected to resume by October 1, the airline said in a statement.

On June 12, the London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner began to lose thrust almost immediately after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport and ploughed into a medical college hostel, killing all but one of the 242 onboard and another 19 on the ground in the deadliest aviation accident in a decade. PTI
