Transit bus catches fire near parked airplane at Delhi airport; DIAL terms it ‘a stray incident’

New Delhi: A transit bus operated by AI SATS, a ground handling service provider for Air India, caught fire at Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 on Tuesday.

In reply to the incident, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which handles the operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), responded in X, saying, “In a stray incident, a bus operated by one of the Ground handlers caught fire around noon today. Our expert ARFF team on ground immediately swung into action and extinguished the fire within a couple of minutes. The bus was stationary and fully vacant at the time of the incident. There were no injuries/casualties. All operations continue to be normal. Safety of our passengers and staff remains paramount to us. “

Meanwhile, another fire incident was reported at Gannavaram International Airport in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The fire broke out in the Customs officials’ room, gutting software equipment, a split air conditioner in the immigration room, and luggage belonging to Customs officials.

Fire personnel swiftly responded and managed to bring the blaze under control, averting a major incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
