‘BJP-CPM abused TMC female party worker in front of her 2-yr-old’: Abhishek Banerjee

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Friday accused BJP supporters of abusing a woman party worker in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district, allegedly in front of her two-year-old daughter.
Calling the incident a “heinous attack”, Banerjee said he expects the Election Commission to act swiftly. He noted that while one accused has been arrested, all those named in the FIR must be brought to justice.
The TMC leader further alleged that some of the accused were former CPM workers who later joined the BJP, and claimed they targeted Sathi Gorai Kuila in Sabang.
He asserted that those not arrested by polling day would be held accountable after the results are declared on May 4.
“I am giving my word, after May 4, we will ensure that those behind the incident are brought to Sathi’s residence and made to apologise,” Banerjee said.
Taking a swipe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Banerjee challenged him to remain in Kolkata on counting day to “witness the public response” following what he predicted would be a TMC victory.
He also hinted at a more aggressive tone in post-result celebrations, saying they would reflect both cultural pride and high energy.
Campaigning for TMC candidate Manas Ranjan Bhunia in Sabang, Banerjee accused BJP leaders of insulting Bengali identity by branding TMC supporters as “Bangladeshis”.
He also referenced the 2019 vandalism of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s bust, alleging that those responsible were now trying to project a false connection with Bengal’s culture.
He further claimed that BJP leaders who allegedly tried to dictate food habits in the state would face public pushback after the results.
Banerjee also accused the BJP of attempting to influence voters with cash handouts, urging people to accept the money but vote against the party.
The 294-seat West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
