New Delhi: CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s grandmother died at their family home in Maharashtra on Saturday, October 10, while he remained in Delhi Police custody after being detained upon arriving in the national capital.

The development has left his family worried about his whereabouts and whether he will be allowed to attend her last rites. Dipke was among those detained amid the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. His parents have questioned the circumstances of his detention, saying they have been unable to contact him and are awaiting clarity from the authorities.

Abhijeet Dipke’s grandmother, Savitribai, died at around 12.30 pm on Saturday at the family’s home in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district, according to his father, Bhagwanrao Dipke.

She had been unwell and bedridden for some time. Bhagwanrao said his son shared a close bond with his grandmother and expressed concern over whether he would be able to attend her last rites.

Dipke was detained by Delhi Police after arriving in the national capital on Saturday morning, amid preparations for the planned Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The family said it had been unable to establish contact with him following the detention and did not know where he was being held.

‘We have not been able to contact him,’ says father

Bhagwanrao Dipke questioned the police action and demanded that the authorities disclose the legal grounds for detaining his son.

He said the family had been unable to speak to Abhijeet since the detention and had received information from his friends suggesting that he had been moved elsewhere.

In a statement, Bhagwanrao said the family would continue to support his son despite the uncertainty surrounding his detention.

He also questioned why Abhijeet had not been allowed to return home to attend his grandmother’s last rites.

Mother Anita Dipke questions detention

Abhijeet’s mother, Anita Dipke, also criticised the detention, questioning why her son had been taken away from the airport and whether he would be permitted to attend the funeral.

She said the family had not been able to contact him and alleged that Delhi Police was not providing accurate information about his whereabouts.

Anita also questioned the grounds for the action against her son, asking what offence he had committed and whether he was being treated as a terrorist or traitor.

In another statement, she said the family was distressed by the situation and described her son as someone who wanted to work for the country.

Her remarks reflect the family’s allegations and concerns. The legal grounds for the detention and the circumstances surrounding his custody should be established through official records and statements from the authorities.

Dipke, Ranka and Das to be produced before Executive Magistrate

In a separate update, officials said CJP members Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das had been placed under preventive arrest and would be produced before an Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment Police Station.

A CJP representative said a Delhi Police official had informed them that the three would be produced at 9 am on Sunday. The party’s legal head said he and other advocates would be present at the police station to represent them.

The development came amid the CJP’s planned demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The three detentions had drawn attention as the party prepared to continue its protest in Delhi.

Family awaits clarity over funeral attendance

The death of Savitribai has added a personal dimension to the dispute over Abhijeet Dipke’s detention. His family has said it wants clarity on his whereabouts and whether he will be allowed to attend the last rites.

The immediate questions concern the legal basis of the preventive detention, the place where the three CJP members are being held and the conditions under which they will be produced before the Executive Magistrate.

The family’s allegations against Delhi Police have not, on the information provided, been independently established. The authorities’ account of the detention and any subsequent legal proceedings will be important in clarifying the circumstances.
