Man wakes up to Rs 200 crore electricity bill in Himachal Pradesh

A businessman in Himachal Pradesh was stunned after receiving an electricity bill of over Rs 200 crore for December 2024. Lalit Dhiman, from Beherwin Jattan village in Hamirpur district, was initially billed Rs 210.42 crore, a stark contrast to his usual payment of Rs 2,500 per month.

Upon raising the issue with the local electricity board, Dhiman was informed that a "technical glitch" had caused the inflated amount. The error was promptly corrected, and his final bill was revised to Rs 4,047.

This is not an isolated case. Last November, a tailor from Valsad in Gujarat, Muslim Ansari, received an equally shocking bill of Rs 86.41 lakh. Ansari’s complaint was investigated, and it was discovered that a mistake had led to the excessive charge.
