Woman held after allegedly throwing son, nephew into well in Karnataka; one dies

Mangaluru: A 28-year-old woman was taken into custody after she allegedly threw two children into a well following a marital dispute in Dakshina Kannada district, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place at Perne village around noon on September 19, police said.
The woman, identified as Noorunnisa, allegedly had an argument with her husband over a phone call before the incident, according to police.
Following the quarrel, she allegedly threw her three-and-a-half-year-old son and her sister-in-law's three-year-old son into a well near their house, police said.
Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and rescued both children from the well.
However, the sister-in-law's son died, while Noorunnisa's child was taken to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment, police said.
A case has been registered at Uppinangady police station in connection with the incident.
Police said Noorunnisa has been taken into custody and is being questioned. The Uppinangady police are investigating the case.
