Woman clings to car bonnet in Meerut after allegedly catching husband with another woman

Meerut, UP: A man and a woman have been arrested here after the man’s wife alleged that they tried to run her over with a car after she found them travelling together, police said on Sunday.

A purported video of the incident has surfaced on social media, appearing to show a woman clinging to the bonnet of a car as the vehicle attempts to move away.

Circle Officer Kotwali Sangram Singh said police arrested both the man and the woman who was travelling with him. The vehicle involved in the incident has also been seized.

The incident occurred on Saturday near the L-Block police outpost on Hapur Road, within the jurisdiction of Lohiyanagar police station, according to police.

Police said Sunita, 32, a resident of Kazipur, spotted her husband Mayank, 36, in a car with 34-year-old Mahi Verma and stopped the vehicle.

An argument subsequently broke out between Sunita and Mayank, following which she alleged that her husband attempted to run her over with the car.

Sunita further alleged that Mayank and Mahi abused her, pushed her into bushes and attempted to strangle her.

Police said a case has been registered against the duo under Sections 109(1), relating to attempt to murder, and 352, relating to intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Another video purportedly showing the roadside quarrel between the couple has also surfaced online.

The footage appears to show Sunita assaulting her husband and, at one point, clinging to the bonnet of the car.

Police, however, have not separately confirmed every incident depicted in the video. PTI
