Gangland killing in Canada: Punjab-origin man hunted down and riddled with bullets

A 27-year-old man of Punjab origin was shot dead in a suspected targeted gang attack in Surrey, a city located near Vancouver, raising fresh concerns over escalating organised crime-linked violence in Canada.
The victim, identified as Jasman Sekhon, was killed late Saturday night at a residential complex in a suburban neighbourhood.
According to reports by Global News and CTV News, the killing appeared to be a calculated execution.
Witnesses told investigators that Sekhon was being chased by a dark-coloured SUV shortly before the shooting.
The vehicle reportedly pulled up near him, and two men got out and opened fire at close range. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and collapsed on the spot.
Emergency services arrived quickly and attempted to revive him, but he was declared dead at the scene. The attack, carried out in a residential area, has left the local community alarmed.
In a statement, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Sekhon had prior interactions with police and was believed to have links to the drug trade. Investigators added that early indications strongly suggest the killing was targeted and tied to organised crime networks.
Shortly after the shooting, authorities discovered a burning vehicle nearby, a detail investigators say is often associated with gangland killings, where suspects torch getaway vehicles to destroy evidence and avoid detection.
Police are now working to determine whether the burned vehicle is directly linked to the suspects involved in the attack.
“Investigators are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the homicide and identify all parties involved,” said Sgt Freda Fong.
The killing comes amid a spike in gun violence in the region, with four shootings reported within 48 hours.
The pattern has intensified concerns about growing gang rivalries and the spread of organised crime activity.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as efforts continue to identify the attackers and piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
