Student hacked in broad daylight near college in Kerala; attack caught on camera

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: A college student was seriously injured after he was hacked in broad daylight in Attingal on Friday. 

The injured student is identified as Vignesh, 20, a second-year BCom student at Thonnakkal Saigramam College and a resident of Kazhakkoottam.

Vignesh is currently undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, Attingal police said. The accused have been identified as Shobith and Dilshanth. According to preliminary information, an argument over allegedly harassing female students at the college escalated into a physical altercation.

Local residents who rushed to the spot after witnessing the attack took Vignesh to hospital. He was initially admitted to a Taluk Hospital and was later shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

The attackers allegedly assaulted Vignesh with a machete, causing injuries to his head.

Visuals of the incident, filmed by a person from inside a nearby building, have now emerged. The person who recorded the footage said the attackers might have assaulted him too had they noticed that he was filming the incident.

Police said a detailed investigation into the incident has been launched.
