Supreme Court cancels Sonam’s bail, orders her to surrender in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case

The Supreme Court on Thursday set aside the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

A Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.B. Varale allowed the Meghalaya government's plea challenging the bail order and directed Sonam to surrender before the police within three weeks.

The court, however, clarified that if the trial does not begin and conclude within six months, Sonam would be free to approach the court again with a fresh bail application.

Sonam, a resident of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, was arrested in June 2025 in connection with the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.

The couple had travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and went missing in the Sohra region on May 23, 2025. Raja's body was later found from a deep gorge on June 2, prompting a high-profile investigation.

According to the Meghalaya Police, Sonam allegedly plotted the murder with hired assailants, accusing her of orchestrating the killing for financial gain. The investigation led to the arrest of Sonam and the other accused in the case.
