Alappuzha (Kerala): During interrogation regarding the murder of the householder in Karuvatta, the 13-year-old accused girl broke down in tears when asked about her family. Reports indicate she informed the police that family conditions and personal enmity led to the crime.

Emotional breakdown during interrogation

While providing clear answers to other questions, the girl wept when probed about her family. According to her statement, the deceased, Sivankutty, excessively interfered in her personal affairs and imposed numerous restrictions on her. She reportedly wept while stating, “I received no affection during my childhood. I had to face a lot of restrictions from my relative.”

Grudge built on restrictions

According to the girl, Sivankutty had opposed her having multiple male friends, coming home late at night and using her mobile phone excessively. This opposition developed into a deep-seated grudge, leading her to seek the assistance of her friends to exact revenge.

Months of planning behind the crime

The group had been planning the murder for several months, initially considering poisoning him and later attempting to stage a road accident, both of which proved unsuccessful. They ultimately settled on executing the crime when no one else was present at home, hatching the plot after realising Sivankutty would be alone for four days while his daughter was admitted to the hospital for childbirth. The girl's lover and his friends arrived by train to commit the act, with the girl relaying real-time instructions over the phone at every step.

The plot was hatched knowing that Sivankutty would be alone for four days while his daughter was admitted to the hospital for childbirth. The girl's lover and his friends arrived by train to commit the act, with the girl relaying real-time instructions over the phone at every step.

Celebration after the crime

Following the murder, the group allegedly traveled to Haripad, located about 7 kilometres away, early on Sunday morning. In high spirits over carrying out the plot as planned, they ate at a roadside eatery near the KSRTC stand. Police gathered this information from CCTV footage and statements provided by individuals present at the eatery.

Evidence uncovered on mobile phone

The 13-year-old was confident she would never be caught and made no attempt to erase crucial mobile phone records. The call logs and chat histories with the arrested individuals remained intact on her phone.

Police obtained details of the phone calls made by the accused while travelling from Kollam, along with the location of the Karuvatta house sent by the girl. This helped officers establish that the girl witnessed the murder in real-time.

Even after the crime, she continued updating the accused on subsequent developments. The arrested group was aware when police officers arrived at the scene and questioned the girl. Only after this did investigating officers confiscate her phone.

Background and initial acquaintance

Police indicate that a few of her male friends knew about the murder plot. Investigators are gathering information from everyone connected to her.

She first met her male friend at school while living in Paravur. Sivankutty and his wife moved to Karuvatta two years ago. Known for his gentle nature, Sivankutty was widely respected by locals. Following his son's suicide years prior, he lived with his two daughters. He relocated from Paravur when his daughters moved to Alappuzha.
