Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Mohammad Azharuddin, the former Indian cricket captain and Congress politician, for questioning in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities within the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Official sources confirmed that Azharuddin is required to appear before the agency at its office on October 3.

Background of the Investigation
The investigation is rooted in three FIRs and charge sheets filed by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). These documents allege the misappropriation of Rs 20 crore from the HCA, with the funds reportedly designated for purchasing diesel generators, firefighting systems, and canopies for the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium located in Hyderabad’s Uppal area. The ED's inquiry is part of a wider investigation into suspected financial improprieties within the cricket body.

Azharuddin's Previous Controversies
This marks the first instance of Azharuddin being summoned by the ED, as investigators probe irregularities during his tenure as president of the HCA. The former cricketer previously faced match-fixing allegations but was later cleared of any wrongdoing. However, he is now under scrutiny for his financial dealings related to the association.
