In an era where the internet plays a pivotal role in connecting people, working, shopping, and even finding love, it also opens doors for fraudsters. Despite the rising number of online scams, one Indian youth has turned the tables on a scammer.

An X-user named Jay recently shared his experience with a scammer he met on Tinder. His post, accompanied by screenshots, quickly went viral. Jay detailed how he met a person named Yami on Tinder, who then insisted on moving their conversation to WhatsApp.

As their chats progressed, Yami's true intentions surfaced. She asked Jay for Rs 1000, claiming it was a temporary need and promised to return the money within a few hours. Yami also provided her Google Pay number.

Sensing the scam, Jay devised a plan. He sent Yami a fake screenshot of a failed Google Pay transaction attempt, stating he had tried multiple times and faced technical issues. He then asked Yami to send Rs 20 to check if his Gpay was functioning properly.

Falling into Jay's trap, Yami sent the Rs 20. Jay later shared a picture of a cigarette, implying it was bought with the money Yami sent. His post, highlighting his success in outsmarting the scammer, garnered significant reactions online.

Jay's story serves as a cautionary tale about the prevalence of scams on platforms like Tinder, Facebook, and Instagram. Users are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the cyber cell. Complaints can be filed with local cyber cells or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, along with screenshots and proof of payment. Early reporting increases the chances of recovering lost money.
