Suicide attempt at Kalighat Metro station brings Kolkata's Blue Line to a halt

Kolkata Metro: The weekend began with major disruption on the Kolkata Metro network after a person allegedly attempted suicide by jumping onto the tracks at Kalighat Metro Station early on Saturday morning.
The incident severely affected metro services during peak morning hours, causing significant inconvenience to hundreds of commuters.
According to Metro Railway officials, the incident occurred at around 7.20 am on the up line at Kalighat station when a person jumped onto the tracks in an alleged suicide attempt.
As soon as the incident was noticed, power supply to the tracks was immediately switched off, and metro personnel launched a rescue operation.
The incident brought train services on the entire Blue Line between Kavi Subhash and Dakshineswar to a standstill. To minimise inconvenience to passengers, Metro authorities quickly introduced truncated services.
Trains operated between Dakshineswar and Maidan, and between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) and Kavi Subhash during the disruption.
With services suspended across the affected stretch, several stations witnessed heavy crowds as office-goers and other commuters faced considerable delays and inconvenience.
Thanks to the prompt response of Metro staff and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the person was rescued alive from the tracks and rushed to a hospital for treatment.
After inspecting the tracks and restoring normal conditions, full Blue Line services resumed at 7.44 am.
Although metro operations were restored within 24 minutes, the sudden disruption during the busy morning rush caused major inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.
