Pallipuram infant murder takes unexpected turn: New man claims paternity

Cherthala: A dramatic new development has emerged in the case of an infant who was suffocated and buried in Pallipuram. Another man has come forward, claiming paternity of the child, and has provided a statement to the police. This twist occurred while authorities were questioning the infant's mother, Asha Manoj (35) from Ward 17 of Pallippuram Panchayat, and her friend Ratheesh (39), both of whom are currently in custody.

Asha and Ratheesh were taken into custody by the investigation team for evidence collection. During their questioning, inconsistencies about the child's paternity surfaced. The police learned that another man, a relative and friend of Asha who was present at the delivery, has claimed paternity. DNA samples from all involved parties have been collected for testing.

On August 31, after being discharged from the hospital, Asha and the other man took the infant to Andhakaranazhi beach. After sunset, they handed the child over to Ratheesh in Pallippuram. Ratheesh reportedly informed Asha that night about the infant’s death. According to police, Asha went to sleep only after learning of the murder. Reports also indicate that Asha received approximately Rs 2 lakh from Ratheesh for managing her pregnancy and delivery.

Both Asha and Ratheesh will remain in custody until Monday. Ratheesh is alleged to have killed the child around 8:30 pm on August 31. Asha faces charges of inciting and supporting the murder. The case came to light on September 2, when both suspects were apprehended and the infant’s body was recovered.

The investigation is being conducted by Inspector G. Arun, under the supervision of Cherthala DYSP K.V. Benny.
