Punched, stomped, slurred: Indian student hospitalised after vicious racist ambush in Australia | WATCH

Adelaide: An Indian student has been hospitalised following a brutal and allegedly racially motivated assault in central Adelaide, Australia. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation and renewed calls for better protection of international students.
Details of the attack
The victim, 23-year-old Charanpreet Singh, was with his wife near Kintore Avenue around 9:22 pm on Saturday, 19 July (local time), when he was reportedly ambushed by a group of five men. According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, the attackers emerged from another vehicle, armed with what appeared to be metal knuckles or sharp objects.
The couple had just parked their car to enjoy the city’s light installations when the assault occurred. Singh told local broadcaster 9News that the confrontation stemmed from a minor parking dispute but rapidly escalated into a racially charged incident.
“They just said, ‘F*** off, Indian,’ and after that they just started punching,” Singh recounted.
He was struck multiple times, allegedly with both fists and weapons, and left unconscious on the road. He sustained serious facial injuries, including fractures and suspected brain trauma. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported Singh to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he received overnight treatment.
Police and government response
South Australia Police confirmed receiving a call shortly before 9:30 pm and responded to find the victim injured on the street. A spokesperson stated, “When police arrived, they located the 22-year-old victim on the floor with facial injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment. Investigations are continuing.”
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas condemned the incident, calling it “deeply disturbing” and assured that the attackers would face justice. “There is no place for racism or violence in our state,” he said.
Arrests and ongoing investigation
As of now, one suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the attack. Police continue to examine surveillance footage from the area and are working to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects. Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
The incident comes amid growing concern about racial violence against Indian nationals and foreign students in Australia, with both communities demanding stricter action and support mechanisms to prevent such attacks.
