A Class 10 student is battling for her life after a man allegedly stormed into her classroom with a chainsaw and brutally attacked her at a government school in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district on Friday. Another student was also injured while attempting to stop the assault.

The shocking incident took place at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu mandal headquarters when lessons were underway.

The accused allegedly entered the Class 10 classroom carrying a chainsaw used for cutting trees and attacked the victim.

According to preliminary reports, the accused allegedly slashed her face and inflicted injuries on her head and back. Her classmates and the teacher present inside the classroom witnessed the attack.

Another student sustained injuries when she attempted to intervene and stop the accused from assaulting the victim.

The attacker reportedly fled the scene after the assault, leaving the victim severely injured inside the classroom.

Teachers and fellow students immediately alerted the police and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

What led to the attack?

Preliminary investigation reportedly suggests that the accused was a distant relative of the victim and had allegedly been harassing her for some time.

The accused is suspected to have developed a grudge against the student after she rejected his advances and warned him to stay away from her.

The victim had reportedly told him that she would inform her parents about his behaviour.

The accused allegedly attacked her inside the school following the rejection. Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend him.

Further details about the accused and the circumstances leading to the assault are awaited.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep anguish over the attack on the schoolgirl and sought an update on her medical condition.

After learning about the incident, Naidu reportedly contacted senior district and medical officials to review the student's condition and ensure that she receives the best possible emergency treatment.

The Chief Minister also directed the police department to expedite the investigation, track down the accused and initiate stringent legal action against him.
