Varanasi steps up security at Ganga Ghats ahead of New Year celebrations
The Varanasi district administration has heightened the security throughout the city, especially along the Ganga Ghats, in anticipation of a huge influx of tourists during the year-end holiday season.
Police personnel have been deployed in large numbers to manage crowds at the ghats and in areas surrounding the river. The water police are maintaining strict vigil over the Ganga ghats and nearby stretches, using drones for continuous aerial surveillance to ensure round-the-clock monitoring.
Senior police officials are conducting regular patrols along the riverfront, while boat operators have been instructed to strictly adhere to prescribed safety guidelines. Authorities have also intensified checks to prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth movement of devotees and visitors.
According to district police officials, the heightened security arrangements will remain in place to provide a safe and comfortable experience for tourists and pilgrims, not only during New Year celebrations but also ahead of upcoming religious events such as the Magh Mela early next year.
