This homemade microcar from Gujarat is tiny in size but big on sustainable travel

A man from Gujarat's Rajkot has turned his frustration with daily traffic congestion into an innovative solution by building a compact solar-powered electric microcar. Designed and developed by Paresh Bhai after nearly a year of research, the homemade two-seater electric vehicle is attracting attention for its unique design and eco-friendly features.

The battery-powered microcar measures just 3.5 feet wide, 7 feet long and 4.5 feet high, making it ideal for navigating crowded city roads and fitting into tight parking spaces. It is equipped with a 75 Ah battery, a 1.5-kilowatt electric motor and three 150-watt solar panels mounted on the roof.

According to Paresh Bhai, the compact EV delivers a driving range of up to 90 kilometres on a full charge and reaches a top speed of around 35 kilometres per hour. The vehicle can be charged either through solar energy or a standard household power socket, making it a practical and cost-effective option for everyday commuting.

Built at an estimated cost of around ₹2 lakh, the homemade electric car highlights how innovation and sustainable mobility can offer simple solutions to growing urban traffic challenge
