Buy a sapling with one scan? Rajasthan is making it possible
Buying plants in Rajasthan is getting a digital upgrade. In a unique eco-friendly and technology-driven initiative, the forest department in the Jhalawar district has introduced a QR code-based plant purchase system to encourage more people to buy and nurture greenery.
Under the new system, QR codes installed outside government nurseries provide instant access to information about available plants and saplings. Residents can simply scan the code using their smartphones, browse plant varieties, and purchase them online without visiting the nursery physically.
Officials said the initiative is designed to make tree plantation easier and increase public participation in environmental conservation efforts. The department added that more than 12 lakh plants are currently available across 19 nurseries in the district.
