Priyanka Gandhi alleges CPM-BJP ‘deal’ ahead of Kerala April 9 polls | VIDEO
Malappuram: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday alleged that the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has entered into a “deal” with the BJP ahead of the April 9 Assembly polls in Kerala, intensifying the political contest in the state. Speaking at a campaign meeting in Malappuram, she claimed that the ruling front had compromised on its ideology, accountability and responsibility in order to remain in power for an extended period.
Vadra pointed to issues related to Sabarimala and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not responded strongly, describing this as “evidence” of a possible understanding between the two parties. She further alleged that when opposition leaders raise their voices against the Centre, they often face action from central agencies, while no such cases have been seen against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, suggesting what she described as selective enforcement.
Criticising the state government, Vadra said that several local issues, including drinking water shortages and infrastructure concerns, remain unresolved despite the LDF being in power for years. She argued that there was a growing lack of accountability and responsiveness among those in governance, adding that public expectations were not being met.
During her address, she also spoke about unemployment and migration, noting that many young people from Kerala continue to seek jobs abroad despite the state’s strong human resources and natural advantages. Sharing a personal anecdote about meeting a Keralite worker overseas, she highlighted both pride in their work and concern over the challenges they face away from home.
She urged voters to consider change in the upcoming elections and support the United Democratic Front (UDF), outlining welfare measures and development-focused promises aimed at improving livelihoods, creating jobs and strengthening public services. As campaigning intensifies ahead of the April 9 polls, the exchange of allegations and counterclaims between major political parties continues to shape the electoral narrative in Kerala.
